Notes from the studio.

Occasional pieces on material, site, light, and the slow making of buildings — published when there is something to say.

On limewash, after six summers

We coat the walls in limewash because we trust how it ages. The first season it chalks; by the third it begins to read the weather; by the sixth it has become a record of the building's first chapter — soft, faintly mineral, never identical twice. It is the opposite of a paint chip.

The drawings we don't put online

Some drawings are made to be argued with at a table — never to be scrolled past. They live in the studio, get marked up in pencil, become the negotiation between architect and client. The internet is a poor venue for that kind of conversation.

Why we trained the engine on our own atelier

Generic models give generic plans. We fed the engine fifteen years of our own briefs, sections, mood boards and material lists, so a Blueprint comes back sounding like the studio — not like the average of the internet. Architect-in-the-loop catches what the engine still misses.
